Raytheon and the U.S. Navy have demonstrated how a Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile captures reconnaissance photos and performs midflight retargeting of objects.
The missile sent the captured battle damage indication imagery to fleet headquarters via its UHF satellite communication datalink following the missile’s launch from USS Gridley, Raytheon said Oct. 5.
Raytheon and the Navy wanted to show the missile strike controllers’ performance in redirecting several missiles at the same time during the test, the company says.
The missile hit a designated target after strike controllers at the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain redirected the missile to a new target located at San Nicolas Island.
