GPS IIF-11The latest Boeing-built Global Positioning System IIF satellite has launched over the weekend aboard United Launch Alliance‘s Atlas V rocket, the Space and Missile Systems Center reported Saturday.

The report said this is the 11th GPS IIF satellite Boeing built for the U.S. Air Force in support of the existing constellation’s navigation, positioning and timing services.

Col. Steve Whitney, director of SMC’s GPS directorate, noted that GPS IIF-11 works to play a part in national infrastructure.

The satellite launched Saturday from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, SMC said.

GPS IIF satellites feature the L5 civil signal to support commercial aviation, “safety-of-life” and warfighting applications.

Air Force Space Command‘s 50th Space Wing operates the satellite constellation.
