airport towerGeneral Dynamics has developed two radio communication technologies to operate with a precision-guidance instrument landing system that Thales is building for the U.S. Air Force.

The CM-300/350 V2 air traffic control radios and Fortress ES2440 wireless backhaul radios will work to support the Air Force’s Deployable Instrument Landing System, General Dynamics said Thursday.

According to General Dynamics, the Air Force will implement D-ILS to help pilots land planes during low-ceiling and low-visibility conditions and at temporary airfields where there are no air traffic systems.

General Dynamics’ ATC radio is designed with voice over Internet protocol technology and has been certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration for ground-to-air communication use.

The Fortress mesh point technology works to connect distributed sensors and military users to the wireless network when they conduct missions in outdoor areas.
