ACV1.1Science Applications International Corp. and its partner ST Kinetics will start the development of 13 prototypes for the engineering, manufacturing and development phase of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle Increment 1 program.

Under a $121.5 million contract previously awarded by the U.S. Marine Corps, SAIC and ST will build the eight-by-eight wheeled, armored ACV called TERREX 2, which is designed to transport up to 14 people in land or water missions, SAIC said Thursday.

Tom Watson, SAIC senior vice president and general manager of the Navy and Marine Corps customer group, said TERREX 2 features maneuverability and amphibious ship-to-shore functionality.

SAIC added that the team will work in the company’s facility in Charleston, South Carolina, where initial survivability upgrade services are also provided for 10 prototypes of the Marine Corps’ Assault Amphibious Vehicles.

The company was awarded the contract in November 2015 alongside a $103.8 million contract to BAE Systems to each develop prototypes of an eight-wheel ACV platform as part of the program’s EMD phase.
