Concurrent Technologies Corp. has received a silver 2016 Edison Award under the energy and sustainability category for its purification system that works to reuse up to 90 percent of wastewater from commercial, government or institutional users.

CTC said Friday it originally developed the System for Laundry and Shower Recycle/Reuse for the Defense Department as part of efforts to decrease water resupply needs at forward-operating bases.

CTC President and CEO Ed Sheehan said this is the company’s second Edison Award.

He added that SYLAS-R2 also works to support water conservation and meet potable water standards, and it can be deployed at nursing homes, multi-unit residences, universities, prisons and hotels, among others.

SYLAS-R2 is designed to operate on a three-stage temperature-tolerant filtration process, has a customized control logic for backwash recirculation and has an energy recovery tool to control energy consumption, CTC noted.

The award was given at the 29th Annual Edison Awards Gala Thursday in New York.
