FireScoutRaytheon has received a potential $21.6 million contract to continue to provide software updates in support of the 2016 tactical control system Linux cyber baseline of the U.S. Navy’s MQ-8 Fire Scout unmanned aircraft system.

The company will perform work in Dulles, Virginia, through October 2018 under the sole-source, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

The Naval Air Systems Command will obligate $8.8 million from the service branch’s research, development, test and evaluation funds for fiscal year 2015 and 2016 at the time of award, according to DoD.

The follow-on contract covers the transition of the drone’s TCS baseline into the Open Standards Drive UAS Control Station architecture, software baseline support, automated testing procedures, incorporation of SAU 7000 messaging platform and integration of intuitive controls, according to a notice posted on FedBizOpps.

The Northrop Grumman-built MQ-8 Fire Scout autonomous helicopter works to help land, sea and aerial forces detect targets as well as perform situational awareness and reconnaissance missions.
