Mark McClellan, director of the Health Policy Center at Duke University, has joined telehealth technology and services company American Well as vice chairman of the advisory board.
McClellan previously served as director of the Health Care Innovation and Value initiatives at Brookings Institution and managed the Richard Merkin program on payment reform and clinical leadership, American Well said Tuesday.
He was also the former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.
“Mark’s experience in the White House, as well as at CMS and the FDA, will no doubt be immensely helpful as we continue to bring telehealth to everyone in the U.S.,” said Ido Schoenberg, CEO and chairman of American Well.
McCLellan was also as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, served as senior director for health care policy at the White House and worked as deputy assistant secretary for economic policy at the Treasury Department.
He was an associate professor of economics and medicine at Stanford University before his government posts.
