cyber, computerThe Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology directorate has kicked off its search for an institution to manage a criminal investigations center under a 10-year, $40 million funding program.

The funding opportunity is also open to potential partners to help the lead contractor run the DHS Center of Excellence for Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis’ operations and activities, the department said Tuesday.

U.S. colleges, universities and multi-disciplinary research teams are eligible to apply in  the program and submissions will close on Sept. 1.

The center is intended to inform the investigation methods of transnational criminal organizations’ activities and other crimes related to homeland security through end user-focused research.

The winning consortium will also produce methods, tools and technologies for DHS agents, officers and investigators to predict and prosecute crimes.
