Lockheed Martin BlueGeorgia Tech has purchased four buildings and 52 acres from Lockheed Martin‘s south campus in Marietta to function as additional applied research facilities for the university.

Lockheed said Monday that the new facilities will help to manage crowding in Georgia Tech’s other five buildings in Cobb County as its research enterprise expands.

Tim Lee, Cobb County commission chairman, said the purchase continues the jurisdiction’s push to increase its profile as a research, development and high-tech jobs center.

The university projects its use of the facility for research and education to provide up to 500 jobs in Cobb County, Lockheed added.
