ThalesThales has introduced at the Eurosatory 2016 trade exhibition a software-defined broadband tactical radio designed to support command, control, computers, communications and intelligence systems.

The Thales-built Synaps radio communications platform is based on Contact, a software-defined radio that the French defense procurement agency ordered for use by the country’s armed forces starting in 2019, the company said Monday.

Synaps is designed to expedite ground troops’ response against enemy threats through the creation of a shared network and adoption of the collaborative combat approach, Pierre Tran wrote in a Defense News article published Sunday.

According to the company, Synaps works to provide voice, chat, video, messaging and Blue Force Tracking services to users and complies with the European Secure Software Defined Radio standard.

Synaps also has an anti-jamming function and is designed for use in allied, joint and combined arms operations.
