cyber hack network computerBothell, Washington-based software development company Veramine has landed a $149,979 contract from the U.S. Air Force under the Small Business Innovation Research program to conduct cyber deception research in support of the military branch’s network defense efforts, C4ISRNET reported Friday.

Mark Pomerleau writes Veramine will design and develop tools for use in a representative cyber scenario as well as perform comparative analysis and proof-of-concept demonstration.

Veramine CEO Jonathan Ness told the publication that the Air Force chose multiple companies to support the cyber deception R&D effort’s initial phase and will subsequently down-select contractors for the second phase that covers prototype development.

The report said the initiative seeks to explore tools that commanders can use to disseminate information meant to confuse, delay and impede cyber attackers.
