The National Academy of Sciences has been awarded a potential five-year, $30.1 million contract by NASA to perform studies and assessments for the space agency’s aeronautics research mission directorate.
NASA said Tuesday the nonprofit organization will assemble an independent group of scientists and engineers from both the public and private sectors to conduct research into various issues related to aeronautics and space programs and policies.
The scientific and engineering professionals will also serve on staff advisory committees that will work to provide communication forums for NASA and other related science, technology and aeronautics communities, as well as manage workshops and advisory studies on behalf of the space agency.
The nonprofit will perform contract work at its Washington-based facility beginning Aug. 17.
