USS John WarnerHuntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding division has concluded its post-shakedown availability effort for the submarine USS John Warner.

The work marks the shipyard’s first PSA effort for a Virginia-class submarine and the company has returned the submarine to the U.S. Navy on Wednesday, Huntington Ingalls said Wednesday.

“I could not be more proud of the sailors and our shipbuilders for this tremendous accomplishment,” said Jim Hughes, Newport News’ vice president for submarines and fleet support.

“Remaining pierside was a huge challenge, but the team held to the schedule and remained under budget despite significant growth work,” Hughes added.

During the PSA process, Newport News Shipbuilding worked to refresh combat systems, electronics and hydraulic plant acoustics.
