AECOM to Provide Construction Mgmt Support to NYC Wastewater Resiliency Program

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection has awarded AECOM a potential five-year, $41.5 million contract to provide construction and program management services in support of the city’s Wastewater Resiliency Program.

AECOM said Wednesday it will provide such services to facilitate upgrades to 14 wastewater treatment plants and over 50 pumping stations across the city’s five boroughs.

The company noted that such resiliency upgrades will cost approximately $200 million.

“Remembering the damage that superstorm Sandy inflicted on New York City, coupled with the predicted future increase of extreme weather and the well documented rising sea level, the need to make the city’s infrastructure more resilient is critically important,” said Paul Storella, a vice president and NYC metro water business unit leader at AECOM.

WRP is based on the department’s Wastewater Resiliency Plan that analyzes severe weather events and seeks to build up wastewater facilities through the identification of at least 500 construction projects.
