ApacheLockheed Martin has secured a $49 million contract from the U.S. Army to provide sensor upgrades for AH-64E Apache helicopters.

The company said Monday the contract covers 42 Modernized Day Sensor Assembly kits and spares to update the Apache aircraft’s Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor.

Lockheed will carry out Lot 1 production at the company’s Orlando and Ocala, Florida-based facilities through March 2019.

M-DSA works to provide high-resolution, near-infrared and color imagery on cockpit displays; laser pointer marker to support troop coordination; and an updated multi-mode laser to aid flights in urban environments  and home-station training

M-TADS/PNVS is designed to assist long-range, precision engagement and pilotage functions to support missions during day, night and in extreme weather conditions.

Lockheed has supplied approximately 1,350 M-TADS/PNVS systems to the Army and 15 countries.
