WoolpertWoolpert has received a a contract from the city of Springfield, Ohio to develop a Federal Aviation Administration master plan and layout for the Springfield-Beckley municipal airport to detail the site’s existing configuration.

The FAA will primarily fund the project while the city of Springfield and the Ohio Department of Transportation will provide additional financial support, Woolpert said Friday.

Woolpert noted that it will evaluate existing and future airport infrastructure components such as roadways, runways, taxiways, navigational aids and buildings as well as administrative functions, finances, economic development opportunities, environment and wildlife management.

Chris Snyder, a Woolpert project manager, said that airports should consider continued cost and manpower required to maintain existing infrastructure in addition to the identification of growth opportunities.

Don Smith, airport manager at Springfield-Beckley, said the airport has began efforts to provide support for unmanned aerial system flight activity that includes operations of the Air Force Research Laboratory and other educational and research partners.

Woolpert will also team up with Sinclair Community College to conduct work on the planning aspects of the Master Plan project.
