AECOM and EnergySolutions‘ joint venture has been selected to lead the decommissioning of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station under a 10-year contract.
SONGS Decommissioning Solutions will dismantle and decontaminate the station as part of the commercial nuclear plant decommissioning project, which is predicted to generate close to 600 new jobs, AECOM said Tuesday.
Michael Burke, AECOM CEO and chairman, said the company will leverage its various sectors to help safety decommission the San Onofre nuclear power plant.
EnergySolutions is in the process of decommissioning two nuclear stations and will support San Onofre’s waste processing and disposal, said Ken Robuck, president of disposal and nuclear decommissioning at EnergySolutions.
