Frank Mong, former senior vice president of product, industry and solutions at Palo Alto Networks, has been appointed chief marketing officer at Santa Clara, California-based open data technology provider Hortonworks.

Mong will oversee Hortonworks’ global marketing strategy to build on the company’s growth efforts, according to a May 22 press release.

Raj Verma, president and chief operating officer of Hortonworks, said Mong’s marketing experience will help the company to grow in the big data, cloud computing and internet-of-things segments.

Mong led product and industry marketing for Palo Alto Networks’ entire portfolio in his previous role.

He also served as VP and general manager of solutions for Hewlett Packard Enterprise‘s security business; head of business development and strategic alliances at Silver Spring Networks; marketing VP at Trend Micro; and senior director of product marketing at Symantec.
