Lockheed Martin is considering a plan to bid on a potential $4.18 billion program to build three logistics centers for Israel’s defense forces, Globes reported Monday.
Sources say Lockheed’s U.S. headquarters has designated a special team to oversee the selection of an Israel-based company that will lead the project.
Lockheed will serve as a subcontractor should it decide to bid on the logistics center construction plan.
Israel’s defense ministry wants foreign companies to take part in the project in order for the latter to share their processes and knowledge in the management of logistics centers.
The report said Israel is scheduled to release the tender for the logistics centers in early 2018 with a plan to complete construction work by 2023 to replace 17 existing facilities at IDF bases across the country.
