SSL to Develop Ultra High Density Satellite for Hughes Network Systems

Hughes Network Systems has selected Space Systems Loral to develop the former’s next-generation ultra high density satellite designed to expand the Hughes Ka-band capacity across the Americas region.

The new Jupiter-powered EchoStar XXIV UHDS will help aid the business expansion of Hughes in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil and other countries in South America, the company said Wednesday.

EchoStar XXIV will be launched in 2021 to offer new satellite internet capacities for various service sectors including aeronautical, consumer, cellular backhaul, community Wi-Fi and enterprise markets.

“EchoStar XXIV/JUPITER 3 will help Hughes satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed Internet around the globe,” said Dario Zamarian, group president at SSL.

Pradman Kaul, president of Hughes, said that the EchoStar XXIV/Jupiter 3 offerings will help boost the capacities of the company’s satellite fleet which supports approximately 60 percent of the high-speed satellite internet market in the Americas.
