USAID-Inmarsat Partnership Aims to Promote Sustainable Fishing Practices in Southeast Asia - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe U.S. Agency for International Development has partnered with Inmarsat to help Southeast Asian commercial fishing crews adopt sustainable fishing practices.

Inmarsat said Friday the alliance seeks to leverage communications technology to support catch documentation and traceability efforts in the region.

USAID’s Oceans and Fisheries Partnership Oceans will also work with Inmarsat to aid communications between crew members of medium and large fishing vessels through the use of the company’s Fleet One and IsatData Pro platforms.

Both platforms are designed to facilitate global two-way messaging services for maritime users who conduct port and vessel observation activities.

“We believe that by bringing a new level of connectivity onboard, we can help combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, ensure compliance, improve data transfer, quality and reliability, and enhance crew safety,” said Gerbrand Schalkwijk, chief sales officer of Inmarsat’s maritime business.
