Raytheon-Built Small Satellites to Support DHS’ Search-and-Rescue Missions - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon has produced two small satellites for the Department of Homeland Security in support of search-and-rescue operations.

The Polar Scout satellites have radio frequency receivers that work to help search-and-rescue personnel track emergency signals in the Arctic and other remote areas, Raytheon said Wednesday.

The company partnered with Millennium Engineering and Integration, Rincon Research and Space Dynamics Laboratories to produce the satellites as part of the U.S. Air Force’s Operationally Responsive Space program.

The Polar Scout satellites were assembled at Raytheon’s missile manufacturing facility in Tuczon, Arizona, and are set to be launched later this year to operate in low-Earth orbit.
