Orbital ATK Produces 25,000th Precision Guidance Kit for Army and Marines - top government contractors - best government contracting eventOrbital ATK has produced the 25,000th unit of an artillery guidance kit used in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.

The M1156 Precision Guidance Kit was designed to reduce ballistic dispersion and collateral damage of 155mm artillery through the use of global positioning system technology, the company said Monday.

Users may fit the kit on their weapons without the need of additional alterations to existing projectiles.

The kit was also built to help deal with asymmetric threats observed in the modern battlefield.

With the recent end of the kit’s second production year, Orbital ATK has begun the third PGK production year at a manufacturing facility in Plymouth, Minnesota.

“Looking to the future, we are applying PGK principles to create additional precision weapons that have cross-domain applications,” said Dan Olson, vice president and general manager of the company’s armament systems division.
