Leonardo DRS' facility in Cypress, California, will operate as a center of excellence to develop artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies for the U.S. government. The facility, which has functioned as Advanced Engineering CoE under Leonardo DRS' electro-optical and infrared systems business, offers expertise in technologies applicable to multiple domains such as land and space, the company said Monday.

Leonardo DRS CEO William Lynn told Government Matters in an interview posted Tuesday that one of the trends he sees in the defense sector is the Pentagon’s need for speed. He said the Department of Defense wants industry to deliver faster and companies should understand DoD’s priorities to know where to invest and meet the department’s requirements.
