Since 2002, Joseph E. Robert, III (below, right) has served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and recently served a tour of duty in Iraq. He is currently a student at American University in Washington, DC, studying international affairs. Joe serves as a board member of Fight For Children. This year he also has the special honor of chairing the 20th Anniversary of Fight Night, an event his father Joseph E. Robert, Jr. founded in 1990.

commandant_5x73This year’s Fight Night, which takes place Thursday, November 5, at the Hilton Washington, will draw Washington’s most prominent leaders in business, politics, sports, and the media for a night of networking and helping kids. Fight Night has been named the number one charity event in Washington for the past two years by BizBash Magazine. Joe recently talked to ExecutiveBiz about Fight Night and what the event means for kids in Washington, DC.

Fight Night 2008

Fight For Children held their 19th annual “Fight Night” at the Washington Hilton on Thursday, November 6th. Countless celebrity and political figures, from Smokin’ Joe Frazier and Clinton Portis to DC Mayor Fenty, highlighted the 2,000 person guest list as a record of over $2,000,000 was raised for the DC children’s charity. The $1,000-a-ticket black tie event, famous for its cigar smoking, also featured a steak dinner, top tier open bar, and entertainment from the redskin cheerleaders.

Fight Night 2008

Fred SchaufeldFight Night was recently named by BizBash magazine as the number one benefit in Washington. This year’s event, which takes place Thursday, November 6, at the Hilton Washington, is expected to draw over 2,000 of Washington’s leaders in business, politics, sports, and the media to promote the quality of education in Washington, DC schools. We caught up with Fred Schaufeld, founder and chairman of NEW Customer Service Companies, who’ll serve as chairman of the 2008 event, and here talks about why he is involved in Fight Night.

What is Fight Night?

Fred Schaufeld: Fight Night is a fundraising arm of Fight For Children, a nonprofit organization that promotes the quality of education in Washington, DC schools. Fight Night, fashioned off an “old time smoker,” has raised almost $25 million over the years. The event features a parade of legendary boxers, including Jake LaMotta, Joe Frazier, Jerry Cooney and Roberto Duran, live entertainment, a laser show, a high-energy dance routine by the Washington Redskin Cheerleaders and several bouts of professional boxing.
