AT&T expects to reach 70 percent of the development of a U.S. wireless public safety network service, GCN reported Friday.
Robert Patterson, senior executive director of global law enforcement at AT&T's public sector solutions business, has said the FirstNet communications service could be a "game changer" for the way public safety personnel conduct rescue and recovery missions. He wrote in a GCN guest piece published Tuesday the nationwide broadband network offers push-to-talk features that allow agencies to collaborate to help enforce the law and address public safety concerns.
AT&T has partnered with the government of San José in California to field the FirstNet communications service for first responders, equip the service to various agencies including the police, emergency, environmental services and fire departments as part of San José’s Emergency Action Plan initiative.
AT&T and Mutualink have entered into an agreement to facilitate communications interoperability for first responders and other public safety personnel. AT&T said Thursday it will add Mutualink’s Interoperable Response and Preparedness Platform to the FirstNet public safety broadband network under the partnership to help users accelerate sharing of data, voice and video across systems.
AT&T has completed 53 percent of buildout efforts for the nationwide public safety broadband service as of the end of the first quarter, Urgent Communications reported Thursday.
Sonim Technologies has launched a ruggedized flip phone for use with the AT&T network and the FirstNet public safety network. The XP3 phone is designed to provide communications for public safety and other activities that take place in extreme environments, Sonim said Friday.
Mike Leff, vice president for defense at AT&T’s public sector business, said the company works with the Department of the Navy to identify smart base applications since the service opted to deploy the FirstNet public safety broadband network, GCN reported Monday.
The Department of the Navy has agreed to deploy a national public safety broadband network from AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority across Navy and Marine Corps installations in the U.S., Seeking Alpha reported Monday. “We are honored to help the Department of the Navy transition to the FirstNet public safety communications platform,†said Mike Leff, vice president for defense at AT&T’s public sector business.
