Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works segment has begun assembly work on an experimental supersonic aircraft for NASA after completing the critical design review process.
Lockheed Martin has tapped Collins Aerospace to deliver environmental control systems and other equipment for the development of a NASA supersonic aircraft which will be utilized to investigate the possibility of supersonic commercial air travel.
Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works division has started to build a supersonic demonstrator aircraft at its facility in Palmdale, Calif., under a potential $247.5M contract that NASA awarded in April. The X-59 Quiet Supersonic Technology aircraft is designed to travel at a speed of approximately 940 miles per hour at 55K feet and reduce sonic boom noise […] More
NASA will perform on Thursday, Oct. 25, wind-tunnel tests of a small-scale model of a supersonic aircraft at the agency’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va. Langley engineers will test an eight-percent scale model of the X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology X-plane to gather data needed to build up the control systems for the aircraft, NASA […] More
Lockheed Martin and Spike Aerospace are among the companies that submitted proposals to NASA in September to build a full-scale demonstrator of a supersonic passenger jet, Popular Mechanics reported Monday. The bids come as NASA works to complete wind-tunnel tests on a 15-percent-scale model of the Quiet Supersonic Technology X-plane at Langley Research Center in Virginia. […] More
NASA has started to perform wind-tunnel tests on a small-scale model of a supersonic passenger jet at the space agency’s Langley Research Center in Virginia, the Daily Press reported Thursday. Langley researchers have begun to subject the 15-percent-scale model of the Quiet Supersonic Technology X-plane to slower wind speeds at Langley’s subsonic wind tunnel in order […] More
Lockheed Martin and NASA have begun high-speed wind tunnel tests on the preliminary design of a supersonic passenger jet at the space agency’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio. NASA said Saturday it will continue to test a nine percent scale model of the Quiet Supersonic Technology X-plane in GRC’s Supersonic Wind Tunnel over the next eight weeks to collect […] More
