Washington Area Golf Course Caters to Region’s Elite

March 18, 2008 by John Stauffer

Washington area golfers looking for an extra layer of corporate exclusivity have a new course to call home. The Presidential, a new course set to open in Dulles, has adopted a unique corporate-only membership policy providing its golfers elite access to the region’s most exclusive clients.

While some other clubs frown on the practice of turning the sport into a board meeting, the Presidential encourages that members bring clients to the course. “That’s a unique position and they’re making no bones about it — come and do business here, use it as your business’s office if you want, come and bring clients,” Ted Leonsis said in a recent Washington Post article.

Ted Leonsis, along with the Redskins’ newly elected Hall of Famer Darrell Green and Bill Dean of M.C. Dean Inc –a Dulles-based engineering and integration provider — make up the club’s nascent elite membership.

“The course truly brings the boardroom to the golfer and vice versa,” the Presidential said a press release, describing the site as the “best conceived corporate meeting and golf facility in America.”

The Post points out that at the similarly corporate exclusive northern New Jersey course, Fiddler Elbow Country Club, membership comes with a $33,000 a year price tag while a comparable four person corporate membership at The Presidential costs a full $60,000 a year.

“The Presidential also houses one of four Jack Nicklaus Academies in the country” and a 56-station driving range,” according to the course’s Web site. “The Academy, 18 holes of play and the 16,900 square foot Presidential Clubhouse will open spring of 2008. The remaining holes will open in 2009 and the Presidential Grand Clubhouse opening in spring of 2010.”
