Jeffrey Zients Closer to Confirmation as OMB Deputy Director

Jeffrey Zients was approved Tuesday by voice vote of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committeea as deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget, the last step before a full Senate vote.  If confirmed, the experienced executive will also serve as the nation’s first Chief Performance Officer, tasked with streamlining the government’s performance and cutting costs.

Zients is founder and managing partner of Washington-based investment firm Portfolio Logic. He was a member of the board of directors of XM Satellite Radio until its 2008 merger and is a current board member at Sirius XM Radio, Revolution Health Group, a holding company investing in consumer-driven healthcare, Best Practices which outsources emergency medical services, and Timbuk2 Designs, a retailer of backpacks, apparel and messenger bags.  Previously, he was chief executive and chairman of the Advisory Board Company and chairman of the corporate advisory board.
