Obama plans to name Andrew McLaughlin, Head of Global Public Policy and Government Affairs for Google, Inc., to become the nation’s Deputy CTO according to the New York Times, citing two sources close to the administration. McLaughlin would report to Aneesh Chopra, who was confirmed as the nation’s first CTO last week. This would be the third appointment for the Obama administration of a former Google executive, following Katie Stanton’s nomination as director of citizen participation and Sonal Shah’s as head of the White House Office of Social Innovation. Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, has been an advisor to the administration on technology issues.
