Oracle plans to officially seek approval from the European Union for its acquisition of Sun Microsystems this month. The EU will then have 25 days to review the takeover and either approve, request changes or deny Oracle’s request. Yet the review may take 90-days if an EU investigation is requested.
Oracle’s $7.4 billion deal with Sun Microsystems, announced in April, did not receive immediate approval in the US due to Java licensing concerns. Oracle hopes to have the takeover process completed by the end of August.
According to a Reuters source,”The deal will be notified to the European Commission this month” and “Information on Java licensing rights will be included in the EU notification.”
