SSA Plans to Expand Electronic Disability Claims System

SSA Plans to Expand Electronic Disability Claims System - top government contractors - best government contracting event

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced plans to create an electronic disability claims system through the National Health Information Network (NHIN).

Since February, the SSA has worked with MedVirginia to automate the disability claims program which has sped up the decision time, as well as saving money and labor.

“We would like to expand those benefits to more healthcare providers, to more of our disability determination services in more states. The bottom line is we want to expand the quicker disability decisions to more of our claimants,“ remarked SSA Special Advisor for Health IT, Jim Borland.

The SSA plans to use American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to award contracts in early January and should submit a formal request for proposals on August 7th. They are currently awaiting responses, before July 22nd, to their Federal Business Opportunity Website post to see if there is interest in the project.
