The Malaysia Today news website has been hit by a series of denial of service attacks that crippled the site over the past week.
While it is unclear as to the origins of the attack, many people, including the tech team at Malaysia Today, believe the Malaysian government is behind the attacks.
The attacks began two weeks ago after the website ran an article on a scandal involving the Malaysian government. The website was hit by a series of distributed denial of service attacks that use zombie computers to flood the website with Internet traffic the site is incapable of dealing with.
Additionally, a hacker managed to access the website and delete material, which is different from many freelance hacker attacks in which the hacker defaces the web pages.
The attacks have not been traced to any person or party, consistent with the difficulty of attribution in cyber attacks.
