The North Koreans may have hacked into a computer used by a South Korean official and downloaded part of a war plan developed by the US and South Korea, according to The Chosun Ilbo. The breach appears to have occurred earlier this year when a South Korean officer used an unsecured USB drive on his home computer and part of a secure plan, known as OPLAN 5027, was accessed by an individual with an IP address in China.
Despite the announcement that a new plan is being formulated, sources involved in the process have stated that the new plan uses OPLAN 5027 as a framework. If the suspected leak is accurate, this will compromise the new military plans to defend against any North Korean aggression.
According a research center in South Korea, the North Korean capability is quite strong, with possible as many as 600 hackers working for the North Korean government.
