$3 Million Stolen from NY School

A school district in western New York state has become victim to cyber crime, with criminals stealing around $3 million via the Internet. The funds were stolen over a four day period and it is presently unclear to investigators precisely how the funds were accessed by the criminals.

The FBI and New York State Police are presently investigating the case. This is the latest in a string of online thefts that have cost local business approximately $100 million as of October, according to estimates by the FBI. Cyber criminals, often based abroad in places like Eastern Europe, illegally access bank accounts and drain the funds before anyone is aware of what happened.
