On Monday evening, the Chinese search engine was hit by an attack from the ‘Iranian Cyber Army’, hackers who brought down Twitter briefly late last year. In response to the attacks, hackers in China sought to restore national pride by retaliating against websites registered in Iran.
One website registered in Iran had the following message displayed on its main page following a hack “Please tell your so-called Iranian Cyber Army: Don't intrusion chinese website about The United States authorities to intervene the internal affairs of Iran's response. This is a warning!“ Several other websites registered in Iran were hacked and defaced with Chinese flags and pro-Chinese slogans.
One group in China, calling itself the “Honker Union for China,“ posted screenshots of an attack against Iranian State Television’s website, with the message “We are China's hacker! Let the world hear the voice of China! The state is higher than the dignity of all!“
