Cyber crime is a growing issue around the globe and many nations are standing up capabilities to minimize the damage to their domestic economies. Some cyber crime gangs are alleged to be netting millions of dollars each week from targets around the globe.
Bihar, in north-eastern India, has opened a cyber crime unit at the Kotwali police station in the state capital. The Cyber Crime Investigation Unit (CCIU) will serve a similar function to national complaint centers where alleged victims can file complaints regarding alleged acts of cyber crime.
“It is the first-ever unit in Bihar and will come in handy for probing cyber crime and mobile phones complaints,” Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said. “Now onwards people can even get register their complaint with the police stations through e-mail.”
“We have made these facilities available for ensuring better policing and establishing cooperation with people,” he added.
