OPM Working to Address Cyber Talent Shortage - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe Office of Personnel Management and the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education claim resource problems and a dearth of talent have contributed to the current lack of skilled cyber professionals. Therefore, OPM is currently working to examine the problem.

“We have high unemployment, so we may be lulled into a false sense of security, in thinking that our workforce is okay,” said Maureen Higgins, assistant director, agency support and technical assistance at OPM, who was speaking at a panel in Md. “But we know that can turn around soon, so we really need to be thinking ahead.”

Higgins explained that getting a better understanding surrounding the cyber workforce can prove difficult. Many people touch cyber but may not be directly involved in operations, Higgins said.
