McAfee Chief Executive Officer Dave DeWalt has outlined an initiative for what the company calls “McAfee 3.0”: matching McAfee’s security platforms with hardware from new parent company Intel to provide better protection, not only at the PC and server software level, but in the network appliance, embedded system and cloud-computing areas, v3.co.uk reports.

During his keynote at the recent 2010 FOCUS conference in Las Vegas, the McAfee executive spoke about how the “silicon to satellite” strategy will secure every kind of endpoint. The goal will be to cover the growing array of gadgets and services being added into the evolving IT landscape, he said.

“You are only as strong as your weakest link,” DeWalt was quoted as saying by v3.co.uk. “If it’s connected to your architecture and your network, it can be hacked.”

Intel, who purchased McAfee in August for $7.68 billion, said the two firms will partner on new security projects. Intel President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Otellini was quoted by v3.co.uk as saying “security has become the third pillar of computing,” and the company believes security will be most effective when enabled in hardware.
