NASA Awards Raytheon $1.7 Billion Contract

Raytheon will support NASA's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration over the next eight years to the tune of $1.7 billion.

The project involves creating the Joint Polar Satellite System to replace an older weather-monitoring satellite program. Raytheon will develop systems for command, control and communications, interfaces, data processing, operations, and system maintenance.

In a separate project under the JPSS umbrella, Raytheon will develop a Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite, essentially sensor technology and flight integration.

“The award of the JPSS Common Ground System enables uninterrupted support to meet both civilian and defense weather needs,” said Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems. “It allows Raytheon to continue the development and evolution of the ground system into an exceptional operational program for JPSS and DWSS.”
