Hackers Stand Up for Disgraced Martial Artist

Hackers attacked the website of the World Taekwondo Federation after it punished a 25-year-old Taiwanese fighter for allegedly cheating at the Asian Games, AFP reported.

The incident came after the federation suspended Yang Shu-chun for three months after she had been disqualified at last month’s games in Guangzhou for using extra sensors in her socks, according to Taipei Times.

“Still unfair,” hackers wrote, and the website had to be taken down to prevent more damage to it, China Post reported.

Yang’s coach also was suspended for 20 months, while the Chinese Taipei Amateur Taekwondo Association were fined $50,000 for “negligence and wrongdoing” for its participation in the row.

Taipei Times said the three-month suspension was “basically a slap on the wrist.”

“[T]here are no major international taekwondo events scheduled for the next three months,” the newspaper noted.
