Qwest Communications has purchased more than 5,000 gifts from the Women's Bean Project, a nonprofit organization empowering women from underprivileged backgrounds, the company announced.
The organization, which produces gourmet food and jewelry products, is hiring additional full-time staff to meet the order. Qwest is using the gifts as part of its holiday appreciation program for its customers.
“This is a terrific effort between Qwest and a local nonprofit organization,“ said Cindy Humphrey, VP of Qwest Business Markets. “It demonstrates how corporations and nonprofits can unite to build stronger communities. We believe customers will appreciate our relationship with Women's Bean Project.“
The Qwest Foundation has also supported the Women's Bean Project with a $2,500 donation to fund its transitional employment project.
Women’s Bean Project CEO Tamra Ryan said Qwest's efforts will empower women beyond just the holiday season order.
“I hope the personal signature from a woman employed by Women's Bean Project attached to each package also signifies to the recipient that the food basket they just received is not only a delightful gift, but one that supports our community in a meaningful way,“ she said.
