During yesterday’s speech at the George Washington University’s Homeland Security Policy Institute in Washington, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said her department would finish development of and begin deploying Einstein 3 in 2011.
Einstein 3 “will provide DHS with the ability to automatically detect and disrupt malicious cyber activity,” she said, according to Federal News Radio.
The secretary also laid out some of the milestones her department has achieved in recent years, including opening a new 24/7 watch and warning center, growing the stable of cyber experts by nearly 500 percent, and entering into an agreement with the Department of Defense and National Security Agency to detail the division of labor among the organizations.
According to Napolitano, cybersecurity is one of the focus areas for DHS over the next year. Her speech was the first of what she said will be an annual State of Homeland Security discussion.
