Lockheed Martin has announced its support for the Center for Internet Security’s U.S. Cyber Challenge, a program made up of student competitions, training and events designed to groom the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in the United States.
Charles Croom, VP of Cyber Security Solutions for Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions, said programs such as USCC will help develop a technical workforce to keep the United States globally competitive.
These sentiments mirror those of President Barack Obama, who during last night’s State of the Union address called for better science and technology education to help us “out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world.”
“Protecting our competitive advantage and digital infrastructure requires the expertise of trained cybersecurity professionals,” he said. “We realize that Lockheed Martin’s leadership in cybersecurity and STEM efforts can only succeed through partnership with organizations such as the U.S. Cyber Challenge.”
Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Lockheed Martin donated a total of $21,000 to the Lakeland and Forest City school districts for Project Lead The Way, a pre-engineering program.
The money will support curriculum for high schoolers, including courses in engineering and aeronautics and extracurricular activities. A portion will also go to a robotics competition for seventh and eighth graders. As part of the program, Lockheed Martin engineers have volunteered their time to give guest lectures and to serve as mentors for the students.

Lockheed Martin recognizes the critical need our nation has to graduate more science, technology, engineering and math students into high-technology and engineering careers in order to ensure our technological leadership and national security capabilities.”
