Lockheed Martin today announced it has been selected to provide Idaho Falls Power with cybersecurity support for its utility smart grid operations.

The firm will support the power utility as it adopts a citywide, two-way communications Advanced Metering Infrastructure system, allowing the utility to securely gather and examine energy readings from advanced energy meters.

Lockheed Martin will be responsible for assessing the Idaho Falls Power AMI network architecture to conduct a risk assessment, identify security requirements, and provide recommendations for design elements and controls to mitigate vulnerabilities.

“We have experience building and securing enterprisewide cybersecurity programs for many of our customers, and we have tailored and implemented our security approach specifically for the unique environment of the U.S. utility sector,” said Ken Van Meter, principal, Lockheed Martin Energy Solutions. “We’re proud to help Idaho Falls Power as they build this capability and secure such an important part of their smart grid infrastructure.”

Additionally, Lockheed Martin will assess and support the systems integration for the utilitywide network smart grid network architecture.
