Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III is meeting with industry leaders today in San Francisco to discuss best practices in cybersecurity and to deliver a keynote on Pentagon’s cyber strategy at the RSA Conference.

Lynn will describe defense implications of cyber threats and the Defense Department“™s strategy to counter them, said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman. He also will urge the private sector to develop new technologies to help keep the nation“™s cyber domain safe, and will encourage greater government and industry partnership, Whitman added.

Additionally, the secretary will meet with executives from Intel and Google to promote those partnerships and expand DoD“™s understanding of industry“™s perspective on important issues, Whitman said.

Lynn also has conferred with foreign officials in his most recent visit to Brussels, Belgium, to meet with NATO and European officials to discuss strengthening cybersecurity.

During the alliance’s November summit in Lisbon, NATO declared its goal to develop and adopt a cyber policy and implementation plan with real capabilities.

“Defending and protecting the cyber domain is an increasingly vital area of national security,“ Whitman said.
