Blue Ridge Networks announced last week the appointment of Jerry Edgerton as president of its Government Group.

Edgerton is tasked with growing the Chantilly, Va.-based cybersecurity solutions company's federal business.

“Blue Ridge is reaffirming its long-standing commitment to the government market with the appointment of Jerry Edgerton, a well-known and respected executive with a wealth of expertise,“ said John Higginbotham, executive chairman of Blue Ridge Networks. “As a company we have been protecting the government's mission-critical networks for 15 years, and we are focused on expanding our role across multiple agencies. Jerry Edgerton brings the pedigree, background, and knowledge to ensure success. We are looking forward to his direction and leadership.“

Edgerton has extensive experience in the area of IT solution adoption and implementation in the federal space. He's overseen the creation and launch of IT programs for General Services Administration, Social Security Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of the Interior, Department of Homeland Security, and Defense Department.

Edgerton comes to Blue Ridge from Core180, where he served as president of government markets. Previously, he served as president of Verizon Federal.

“The advanced persistent threat against government networks is at an all-time high,“ Edgerton said. “Agencies must take steps to increase security, while facing significant challenges and pressures associated with declining budgets. Through its suite of nondisruptive, certified, and cost-effective solutions, Blue Ridge is taking the initiative to help meet the government's requirements. We believe that we are at an inflection point in cybersecurity, where isolation and Ethernet layering are essential. I am excited to be joining such a leading-edge company that is engaged in securing the world's most sensitive networks.“
