CyberPatriot IV Opens Up Registration for Cyber Warrior Hopefuls - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe nation's largest high school cyber-defense challenge, CyberPatriot, is now inviting students from all U.S. high schools or accredited home school programs to register for CyberPatriot IV to compete to become the next cyber warriors.

Established by the Air Force Association, CyberPatriot was created to inspire high school students to pursue careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.

In the preliminary rounds, students learn to protect computer networks from real-life computer threat scenarios. Participants compete on the Internet as their assignment is to find vulnerabilities in simulated computer systems while maintaining specified computer functions.

CyberPatriot has a tournament-style tiered structure, culminating in an all-expenses-paid trip to the national championship in March 2012.

Earlier this month, Northrop Grumman presented $54,000 in scholarships to 36 students at the CyberPatriot III National Finals Competition. All of the winners received a portion of the total amount with first-place winners awarded $2,000 each, second-place winners awarded $1,500 and third-place winners receiving $1,000 each.

The deadline to register for CyberPatriot IV is Oct. 8, 2011. The only cost to teams is a $350 entry fee, which provides access to the software, participant materials and travel expenses for teams qualifying for the finals.
