
Joel Bagnal has spent most of his career working in the national security sector to help combat terrorism and assist companies in fighting cyber threats. Before joining L-3 Communications as senior vice president for cyber solutions, Bagnal worked as an independent consultant, helping IT companies develop strategies for cybersecurity customers for the U.S. government.
Bagnal served as president of Detica Inc. and remained in that role after the company was acquired by BAE Systems in 2008. He lead BAE Systems homeland security and cybersecurity initiatives. Prior to his job with the firm, Bagnal had experience working for homeland security.
He served in a bevy of roles working for the White House. One of his roles, following the Sept. 11 attacks, was as special assistant to the director of the Homeland Security Task Force. He coordinated national security responses to terrorist threats and incidents, and served as special assistant to the president and senior director for domestic terrorism.
Bagnal served as chief of staff to the Homeland Security Council and as deputy assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism. During his tenure at the White House, he led presidential directives on cybersecurity, identity management, continuity of government, incident management, public health and medical preparedness, among other tasks.
Before working for the White House, the executive served as chief of operations for Multinational Division North and Task Force Eagle in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herezgovina during the Kosovo Air Campaign, and as director of applications and technical support for Bytewise. He holds a bachelor“™s degree from the U.S. Military Academy, and retired from the Army after 20 years of service.
