Today marks the deadline for federal agencies to comply with the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010. The law requires federal agencies to develop telework programs and include telework in their continuity of operation plans.

“Telework is about making the federal workforce attractive to our country“™s best and brightest, mitigating traffic in the Washington region, and reducing emissions and air pollution,“ said Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.), author of the Telework Enhancement Act. “It“™s a win, win, win.“

Underwritten by Juniper Networks, Telework Exchange released a report titled “Federal Telework Progress Report: Making the grade?“ The report found the top telework challenges include capturing data and managing program metrics, management and technology support.

“With evidence and measurable progress, it is inspiring to see Federal agencies embracing the Telework Enhancement Act, and overall creating a more IT efficient government,“ said Bob Dix, vice president of U.S. government affairs and critical infrastructure protection for Juniper Networks.

The report also found 86 percent of telework managing officers are confident the telework policy will be established, 84 percent are confident all agency employees will be eligible to participate in the telework and 76 percent are confident all agencies will be notified of their eligibility to telework.

About 86 percent of TMOs surveyed reported an increase in telework participation in the past six months.
